Alicante will once again be at the center of the international stage on January 17. On that day, the city will host The Ocean Race, the great ocean race that will connect Alicante with Auckland, Itaja\u00ed, St. Pete-Clearwater, Cascais, and Amaala in a round-the-world sailing voyage. <\/p>\n
The competition represents one of the greatest challenges in sailing, combining endurance, resilience, and technological innovation. But for Alicante, its significance transcends the sporting aspect: it also represents an opportunity to showcase the city internationally and demonstrate its capacity to host major events. <\/p>\n
The 2023 experience provides a measure of that impact. The previous start from Alicante attracted more than 300,000 visitors and generated an economic impact of \u20ac71.6 million in Spain. This was further enhanced by significant international exposure for the city’s image. <\/p>\n
The return of the competition allows for a renewed positive impact on hotels, restaurants, retail, leisure, and businesses linked to the port and related services. But it also reinforces a broader positioning: that of an internationally connected city, capable of attracting visitors, talent, and projects of global scope. <\/p>\n
The 2027 edition will also have an exceptional component. The first leg, between Alicante and Auckland, will cover 14,000 nautical miles, the longest in the history of The Ocean Race. <\/p>\n
Last September, Alicante received the flag in Lorient, symbolizing its transition as the next starting port. This gesture marks the beginning of the countdown to an event that will once again transform the city into a starting point and international showcase. <\/p>\n
