The Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA) led one of the parallel activities at Tech Day with a session dedicated to analyzing the impact of artificial intelligence on disinformation and gender equality. The session was led by Mar\u00eda Esteller Fern\u00e1ndez, Deputy Director of Reports and Testing Infrastructures at AESIA, and brought together professionals involved in innovation and AI from the province of Alicante to reflect on some of the most relevant challenges posed by the development of these technologies. <\/p>\n

During the session, several case studies were discussed that demonstrate how biases present in society can be transferred to artificial intelligence systems. One example highlighted was that of recruitment tools that rejected female candidates by learning from the hiring history of companies that previously prioritized male candidates. <\/p>\n

Although these systems were subsequently deactivated, participants pointed out that they reflect how AI can reproduce certain patterns when trained with biased data.<\/p>\n

Another topic analyzed was the generation of images using artificial intelligence and the gender biases that still persist in this field. Attendees also discussed the use of technologies capable of creating images without prior consent, a problem that is generating growing social concern and posing significant ethical and regulatory challenges. <\/p>\n

The session also focused on the greater presence of men in STEM professions (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and how this circumstance can influence the design and development of AI-based solutions. As discussed during the meeting, the lack of diversity in technology teams could hinder the early identification of certain risks related to the violation of women’s rights from the earliest stages of development. <\/p>\n

Participants reflected on the existence of structural gender biases that develop from early stages, such as education, and that are later transferred to the professional sphere. These social patterns end up becoming part of the data used to train artificial intelligence models, contributing to the perpetuation of existing inequalities. In this regard, the importance of digitizing and enriching data with more diverse and representative perspectives was highlighted to foster the development of fairer and more equitable systems. <\/p>\n

As part of the initiatives promoted by AESIA, the launch of working groups in collaboration with the Women’s Institute was announced. These teams will be composed of experts from different disciplines and will address topics related to artificial intelligence and its social impact. <\/p>\n

The agency explained that one of the main objectives of this process is to listen to the participants to understand their concerns and convey them to future working groups, thus contributing to the development of recommendations and policies more aligned with the real needs of society.<\/p>\n

Among those attending the session were professionals from Alicante linked to the field of innovation and artificial intelligence, including Toni S\u00e1nchez, president of Alicantec, Andr\u00e9s Pedre\u00f1o from 1MillionBot, Mar Cervera from the Alicante Science Park, Itziar P\u00e9rez, CEO at Dual Link, Celia S\u00e1nchez, COO at Ellis, Manuel Ciges, CEO of Vigilant, and Mar\u00eda Mateo, as well as other representatives of the provincial technology ecosystem.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
