The Mayor of Alicante, Mr. Luis Barcala, visited the Ocean Race facilities in the port of Alicante on Monday to formalize the signing of a new collaboration protocol with Richard Brisius, President of the organization. This agreement consolidates the relationship between both entities and reinforces the shared commitment to innovation, sustainability and the international projection of the city.

The objective of this protocol is to promote a strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening Alicante’s position as an international benchmark in innovation, technology and urban development.

Alicante, starting port for The Ocean Race 2027
During the meeting, the role of Alicante as the starting port for The Ocean Race in 2027 was highlighted, and the Mayor reaffirmed the commitment of the Alicante City Council to ensure that the city continues to be the starting point for future editions of the competition.

The Committed Partner status acquired after the signing reinforces a stable cooperation framework between the Alicante City Council and The Ocean Race, which will allow the development of joint initiatives linked to sustainability, digital transformation and innovation.
With this great step, Alicante continues to consolidate its role as a key venue for round-the-world sailing and as an innovative city open to international collaboration.
